Blade length : 68.16 cm or inches.
Sori : 1.5 cm or inches.
Mekugi: 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.90 cm or 1.14 inches.
Wide at the Kissaki : 2.13 cm or 0.83 inches.
Kasane : 0.72 cm or 0.28 inches.
Era : Late of Edo period.
Shape : The rather wide and thick Katana with deep sori.
Jitetsu : Mokume hada well grained with Jinie attach and Chikei work.
Hamon : Gunome midare hamon and many ashi work.
In Hamon, there are many sunagashi and Kinsuji work vividly.
Special feature : Jiro Taro Naokatsu, born Kazusa Soriro,
learned under
Naotane, later became an adopted son, lived at Edo, served the Akimoto
family at Tatebayashi in Joshu province, present Gunma pref. and
passed away in 1859, aged 54.
Naokatsu was the most skillful swordsmith next to Naotane or Masayoshi
in the Suishinshi-Masahide clan. The workmanship of excellen Soshu-den,
Bizen-den and Seki-den are very close to his master Naotane.
This sword was attributed as Jiro Taro Naokatsu at the NBTHK.
Especially the work of the this sword has a lot of Kinsuji and you will enjoy.
Koshirae :
Tsuba : On the iron round Tsuba, cereal plants are engraved.
And Mimi (rim) is coverd with Shakudo plate.
Fuchikashira : On the Iron plate, shells are rngraved with gold color.
Saya : Black Urushi nuri Saya.
Menuki : On the copper plate, something design is engraved with gold color.
