Signature: Mumei (unsigned) (attributed to Taira-Takada school)

Blade has been polished.
Blade length : 69.3 cm or 27.28 inches.
Sori : 1.6 cm or 0.62 inches.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.95 cm or 1.16 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.99 cm or 0.78 inches.
Kasane : 0.68 cm or 0.26 inches.
Era : Middle Muromachi period. About Choroku era. (about 1457.)
Shape : Osuriage- Mumei blade. The shape is rather wide and thick, and curved.
Jitetsu : Itame works very well, and covered in Jinie.
The Jigane contains Shirake style Utsuri.
Hamon : Konie based, Gunome and Choji are mixed. It is uneven Hamon.
And from Monouchi and above, it become Suguha.
Boshi is large round shaped Kaeri style.

Special feature : This blade is Mumei (unsigned). But I think this blade
is Taira-Takada school.
There are a few flaws on the blade, but we guarantee NBTHK Hozon Paper,
but we don’t know this blade will be appraised as what by NBTHK.

Taira-Takada school was a sword-smith group in Bungo province.
And founder of the Taira-Takada school was Taira no Nagamori in abour Choroku era.(about 1457)
There were many swordsmith in Taira-Takada school,
for example Osamori, Mori-ie, Iemori, Sadamori, Moritsune, Morishige.

Historical background: At Bunmei era Muromachi period 1467, O-nin no ran(battle)
broke out between Hosokawa Katumoto who carried 24 east army
country 160,000 soldiers of Hosokawa Katsumoto's and Yamana
Mochitoyo carried 20 west army countries 110,000 soldiers at Kyoto area.
All of Japan involved this severe battle without stop so many years.
