Naginata in Shirasaya (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature: Sagami no kami Fujiwara Masatsune.(Shinto, Jo-josaku. Owari province.)

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 47.7 cm or 18.77 inches.
Sori : 2.2 cm or 0.86 inches.
Mekugi: 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.91 cm or 1.14 inches.
Kasane : 0.81 cm or 0.31 inches.
Era : Early Edo period. About Keicho era.(about 1596)
Shape : Wide and thick and long Naginata.
Jitetsu : Tight Koitame covered in little Jinie and Chikei.
It’s strong Jitetsu.
Hamon : Nie based, Suguha. There are active Ashi, and there are much Sunagashi and Kinsuji in Ha.
Boshi is round shape and Yakisake style.

Special feature : Sagami no kami Masatsune was born in Noshu province, and he was called Tarosuke.
He was allowed to engrave “Sagami no kami” in 1591, and he changed
signature to “Masatsune”.
He moved to near the Seishu Castle. And he was hired by Fukushima Masanori.
Next, he was hired by Matsudaira Tadayoshi (4th son of Tokugawa Ieyasu.) in 1600.
Masatsune was very famous as one of the best Naginata maker.
(He made mainly Naginata and Tanto and Yari, therefore his Katana is very rare.)

This blade is the best quality of many Masatsune’ Naginata.
And shape is wide and massive.
