Katana in Shirasaya (NBTHK Juyo Paper)
Signature: Mumei (unsigned) attributed as Raikunisazane.

The blade was polished .
Blade length : 71.2 cm or 28.03 inches.
Sori : 2.0 cm or 0.78 inches.
Mekugi: 3
Width at the hamachi :3,0 cm or 1.18 inches.
Wide at the Kissaki : 2,075cm or 0.817inches.
Kasane : 0.715 cm or 0.28inches.
Era : Late Kamakura period.
Shape : The blade is cut shortened oosuriage mumei with deep sori and wide healthy blade.
Jitetsu :Koitame hada well grained with Jinie attach thickly and Chikei work.
Hamon : Hirosuguha hamon and Kogunome midare convined and Kocyoji midare with Konie Sunagashi and also Yo, Sunagashi and Yubashiri work which is active Hamon.
Nioikuchi is quite bright.

 

Special feature : from Jyuyo token Zuhu.
Rai Kunizane was reported as a srudent of Rai Kunitoshi or son.
Yumeisaku(with signature) Rai Kunizane are very few except Tanto, Kowakizashi and also Tachi.
Some Rai Kunizane makes Hitatsura hamon like Hasebe Kunishige.
This blade is Oosuriage mumei(cut shortened) but the beautiful Koitame hada which has Chikei and thick Jinie.
Hamon is very active bright Hamon with Cyoji midare and kogunome midare and also Ashi and Yo work.
Boshi is small round shaped which is typical special feature of the Raikunisane .
This blade is one of the most well worked fantastic sword in Kunizane and especialy nice Nikuoki(nice meat) healthy blade.
We think also the blade is healthy which has passed more than 620 years.
I think you never get tired of looking at this important sword.
