Tanto in Shirasaya: (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature: Unsigned, attributed as Mito Norimune.

The blade is polished, with a copper habaki, in a shirasaya.
Blade length: 18.8cm or 7.40 inches.
Sori: Uchizori.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi: 1.8 cm or 0.70 inch.
Thickness at the hamachi: 0.92 cm or 0.36 inch.
Era: Late Edo period. 19th century.
Shape: An extremely thick hira-zukuri tanto of Yoroi-doshi style.
Jitetsu: Itame-hada.
Hamon: Suguha-hamon.

Special features: Norimune was a swordsmith in Mito province who learned under
Ichige Norichika, known as Tokurin. Both of them exerted for the
development of Mito-Shinshinto and supplied swords for loyalists of
that province in late Edo period. Norimune passed away in 1899, aged 72.
