Tanto in Shirasaya with Koshirae (Koshirae is NBTHK Hozon Tosogu)

Signature: Bishu Osafune Sukesada.

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 21.2 cm or 8.34 inches.
Sori : Uchi-zori.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.32 cm or 0.91 inches.
Kasane : 0.65 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era : Late Muromachi period.
Shape : The blade width is average, and thickness is rather thick.
Hira-zukuri style Tanto with Uchi-zori.
There are Bou-hi on the both sides.
Jitetsu : Itame hada and Ko-mokume mixed, and works very well.
And covered in Jinie. There is Utsuri on Jitetsu.
Hamon : Nie based, Notare hamon that is similar to Suguha.
There is Niju-Ha. Nioikuchi is rather wide and there are Sunagashi.

Special feature : Special feature : In the Muromachi period, Harima, Mimasaka and Bizen province
had been prospered under the protection of the Akamatsu family.
Above all, Bizen province has turned out a great many talented swordsmiths.
Supplying the demand of the Age of Provincial Wars in Japan, a large
number of swords were made there in the late Muromachi period.
Sukesada has become a synonym for the Osafune School though the
founder was Mitsutada. It is regrettable that a deluge devastated the
School in Osafune districts in Tensho era. Such is the way of the world
that even the Osafune School, that prosperity and power had been unparalleled,
perished in this way in the deluge. Old swords are all that is left to tell
how once the swordsmiths lived.

This blade shape is massive Hira-zukuri Tanto with Uchi-zori.
There are small rough skin parts, but it is inconspicuous.
And this Koshirae is very nice.

Koshirae : NBTHK Hozon Tosogu. All fittings are made by Osaki Yoshiaki. Four Symbols (Chinese constellation) design is engraved on Shibuichi plate.
Saya : On the black Roiro Kizami style Saya with flower engraving.
Kurikata, Koikuchi: On the Shibuichi plate, clouds design is engraved.
Tsuba : Iron Hamidashi Tsuba.
Fuchi: On the Shibuichi plate, Byakko (White Tiger of the West) is engraved.
Kashira : On the Shibuichi plate, Seiryu (Azure Dragon of the East) is engraved.
Kojiri: On the Shibuichi plate, Genbu(Black Tortoise of the North ) is engraved.
Kozuka : signature: So Kanagu Kebori, Osaki Yoshiaki (Kao).
On the Shibuichi plate, Suzaku (Vermillion Bird of the South) is engraved.
Kogatana : Signature: Omi no kami Minamoto Kunikane.(not guaranteed)
Menuki : On the copper plate, court dance design is engraved with gold color.
