Tanto in Shirasaya with Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon Paper) (In the black Urushi colored box.)

Signature: Mumei(Unsigned) (Osafune Tomomitsu.)
(Chu-Koto, Jo-josaku. Ryo-wazamono.)

The blade was polished by high rank polisher.
Blade length : 29.7 cm or 11.69 inches.
Sori : 0.2 cm or 0.07 inches.
Mekugi:4
Width at the hamachi : 2.75 cm or 1.08 inches.
Kasane : 0.43 cm or 0.16 inches.
Era : Nanbokucho period. About Joji era.(about 1362)
Shape : This blade is rather wide, and thickness are rather thin.
This blade shape is typical Hira-zukuri style in Nanbokucho period.
Bon-ji (?) is engraved around Hamachi of Sashi-omote side.
Futasuji-hi is engraved on the Sashi-ura side.
Jitetsu : Very tight Ko-itame with small Jinie attach. There is Shirake-Utsuri on Jitetsu. It’s very beautiful Jitetsu with nice condition.
Hamon : Ko-nie based, Suguha and Ko-midare mix. There is Kinsuji in Ha.
Boshi is Hakikake and Kaeri style.

Special feature : Tomomitsu was a swordtsmith in Bishu Osafune school in Nanbokucho period.
He was a son of the 1st generation Kanemitsu.
There are two Tomomitsu in Kenbu era (about 1334) and Joji era (about 1362).
This Tomomitsu is generally called “Rintomo” to distinguish.
(Because Kanji character “Tomo” is also read Rin.)
Tomomitsu studied under 2nd generation Kanemitsu as well as Motomitsu and Masamitsu.

This blade has very nice shape in Nanbokucho period, and condition is healthy.
Especially Jitetsu is very beautiful. And we recommend this beautiful Tanto.

Historical background: Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu succeeded 3rd generation of Ashikaga shogunate.

Koshirae : Kawari-nuri Aikuchi Tanto Koshirae.
Fuchikashira : Made with Tsuno.
Saya : signature: Mitsukiyo (Kao): On the black and brown colored
Kawari-nuri Saya, bamboo grass are painted with gold color. (Late Edo period.)
Menuki : Peony flower and Shishi-dog are engraved, and gold colored.
Kozuka : On the Shakudo Nanako plate, weaving machine and
Tennyo are engraved with gold and silver color.
Kogatana : signature: Yoshimasa (not guaranteed.)

Box: On the black Urushi colored box, Kamon is painted.
