Tanto in Koshirae

Signature:Enju Nobukatsu saku.
Genji Gan-nen 8gatsuhi.(August, 1864)

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 20.0 cm or 7.87 inches.
Sori : 0.0 cm or 0.0 inches.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi : 1.95 cm or 0.76 inches.
Kasane : 0.73 cm or 0.28 inches.
Era : Late Edo period. About Genji era.(August, 1864)
Shape : This blade is massive Hira-uchi style Tanto.
Jitetsu : Very tight Ko-itame with Jinie and Chikei attach.
Hamon : Suguha around Hamachi. And upper part is Gunome midare.
Boshi is round shaped Yakisage style.

Special feature : Nobukatsu was a member of Kumamoto clan, and he
was called Takenaga Kizo-u-emon.
At first, he studied under Tada Masatoshi in Mimasaka.
And he studied under also Hosokawa Masayoshi in Edo.
He made swords from Tenpo era to Meiji era.
He was well known as good Yari maker.
He passed away in 1841, when he was 75 years old.

This Tanto has massive and healthy shape.
There is one rust around Kissaki of Sashi- omote side. But it is inconspicuous.
