Wakizashi in Koshirae NBTHK Hozon paper
Signature: Mumei (Uda)


The blade is polished, with a silver foiled tachi-habaki, in a tachi-koshirae.
Blade length: 59.7cm or 23.50inches.
Sori: 1.7cm or 0.67inches.
Width at the hamachi: 2.11cm or 0.83inch.
Thickness at the hamachi: 0.17inch.
Era: Late Nambokucho period to early Muromachi period.
Shape: An elegantly curved wakizashi. Blade length is almost close to the katana.
Jitetsu: Jinie and chikei appear on the clear itame-hada.
Slight kitae-ware appear along with the texture of jitetsu.
Hamon: Nie-deki. Deep nioikuchi suguha-hamon includes notare-ba.
Sunagashi and kinsuji make an attractive hamon. Boshi is hakikake-boshi.

Special feature : Special feature : The Uda school is said to have originated in Yamato province.
The founder Kunimitsu moved to Ettyu province in the last Kamakura period. It is said that his son,
Kunifusa learned under Norishige who created a peculiar texture of jitetsu compounded soft
and hard iron commonly called matsukawa-hada or Norishige-hada in Japanese.
Consequently the texture of jitetsu is a point worthy of appreciation of Uda School that was very good
at making use of well-tempered iron's special qualities. Especially conspisious chikei appeals us strongly.
This sword is realy nice quality.

Menuki: Made of shakudo. Flower cart design.
Saya: Matsuba-chirashi, small pine leaves design.
