Wakizashi in Shirasaya (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Signature: Mumei (Unsigned) attribute as Nobukuni (Late Nanbokucho period)

The blade was polished.
Blade length : 35.1 cm or 13.81 inches.
Sori : 0.5 cm or 0.19 inches.
Mekugi : 4
Width at the hamachi : 2.74 cm or 1.07 inches.
Kasane : 0.48 cm or 0.18 inches.
Era : Late Nanbokucho period
Shape : The blade is Hirauchi style mitumune and small sori (curvature)
On the front, engraved bo-hi and on the back, Suken, Bonji and dock.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada and mokume hada mixed with jinie attach.
Hamon : Konie deki gunome midare with rather deep nioikuchi like misty feeling.
Boshi Togari boshi sharply and yakisage style.

Special feature : Nobukuni was a son of the Ryokai Yamashiro school.
Ryokai continued to make suguha hamon but Nobukuni had an inquiring mind for making swords.
He challenged to make Soshu den and succeeded.
This blade is soft feeling Gunome midare hamon and active works in Ha like kinsuji, sunagashi soft ashi.

Historical background: 1392 Nanbokucho period finished.
